"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." -John 10:27
What a great verse! In just a few simple words, Jesus sums up what it is to be a Christian. Let's take a look at the three statements within this scripture.
"My sheep hear My voice..."
Most people think you're crazy if you say you've heard God speak to you. In fact, in most TV shows, only crazy people claim to hear from God -- and 9 times out of 10 those people say He told them to kill somebody! But, according to Jesus, hearing from God is a normal experience for anyone in an intimate relationship with Him. Hearing the voice of Jesus isn't crazy at all. It's one of the things that starts to happen as soon as we give our lives to Him.
"...and I know them..."
It should be no surprise that Jesus knows us. He actually knows us better than we know ourselves! After all, we go to doctors because we expect them to understand our physical bodies better than we do. We go to lawyers because we expect them to understand our legal situations better than we do. We go to therapists because we expect them to understand our psychological issues better than we do. Well, Jesus knows all those things and more. He knows us way, way deep in the spirit. That's why He is our greatest friend, our greatest help and our greatest teacher.
"...and they follow me."
What does it mean to follow Jesus? Does it mean obeying His instructions? Does it mean going where He goes? Does it mean following His example?Following Jesus is the best decision any human being can make, because one thing is for sure: Jesus knows where He is going! He will always lead us in the right direction, and He will always be close -- if we follow.
